“The location of Soldier of Orange – The Musical at the former military airbase Valkenburg in the Netherlands, is very special, not just because of the hangar converted into a theatre. For the Netherlands, the Second World War started in this coastal area. In the May days of 1940, the first German paratroopers landed here in the dunes. The first press conference for the recordings of Soldaat van Oranje the film was even held at Valkenburg Airport, although the film and the musical are entirely different productions. The musical is more of a free adaptation of the book by Erik Hazelhoff Roelfzema. Incredible, that the performance has now broken all records and is playing for eight years already.“
