Fred Boot (Groningen, 1965) studied Communication Sciences at the University of Utrecht. From 1991, he worked with Joop van den Ende Theatre Productions, where he handled publicity and marketing for more than twenty West End productions (The Phantom of the Opera, Miss Saigon, Cyrano, West Side Story), fifteen stage plays (Hoog Tijd, Queen Mother, Duet, The Sunshine Boys, Torch Song Trilogy), as well as a number of revues, live shows, cabaret performances and international productions. Additionally, Fred was responsible for corporate communications at live entertainment company Stage Holding, as well as overseeing PR for all international co-productions, including: The Who’s Tommy in London, The Phantom of the Opera, Cats and Les Misérables in Belgium, as well as Cyrano, Victor Victoria, Titanic and Footloose in New York. There, Boot worked closely with Robin de Levita.
In 1999, Fred – together with Daniel Koefoed – started Montecatini Talent Agency, a management agency in Amsterdam. There, Fred was involved in operations, production, marketing/PR, for productions such as Wilde Mossels, Love Me Just A Little Bit More, Rocky, Over The Rainbow, La Vie Parisienne and A Tribute To The Blues Brothers. Together with foundation De Praktijk, he produced the play Hurly Burly. End 2003, he started preparations for Soldaat van Oranje – De Musical, which premiered on October 30, 2010.
Fred Boot is the director and producer of NEW Productions, which he co-founded with investment company Amerborgh Netherlands. In 2010, NEW Productions and Mark van Ierssel, brought The Best Of Sesame Street to Dutch theatres. Fred Boot is currently working with Edwin de Vries and Theu Boermans on a new production with working title New Amsterdam – The Musical, a musical adaptation of the book Island At The Center Of The World by American author and historian Russell Shorto. Fred Boot won the ID Award of Big Improvement Day 2012, a Dutch platform for positive and constructive contributors and role models from culture, business and society. At the Dutch Musical Awards 2013, Boot received the Special Theater Award together with Alex Mulder and Robin de Levita. In 2015, they won the the Eventim Audience Award Best Musical and AD Audience Award Best Musical 2016. Fred is a board member with several Dutch organisations in support of culture and theatre, such as the VVTP (Foundation Independent Theatre Producers), the Extraordinary Classical Foundation, the Supervisory Board of the Compagnietheater and ambassador for Theater Na De Dam. Fred Boot is initiator of the Educational Theatre Projects Foundation. He is a theatre advisor (member of the monitor committee) of the Council for Culture, chairman of the Supervisory Board of the location theatre project of Johanna Ter Steege: Hanna Van Hendrik, board member of co-producer De Mannen’s Dutch East Indies Monologues and jury member of Theaterfotografieprijs. In 2018 Fred Boot was knighted in the Order of Oranje-Nassau.
